THE SOUND OF LIGHT
Some nights feel too dark. A late-night text changes everything. A doctor’s voice sounds too calm. Worry hums louder than sleep. Yet even then, a small nightlight steadies a child. One candle softens the entire room of shadows. That’s the math of heaven: a little light makes a life-sized difference.
Jesus says in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world.” Not someday. Now. In hospital hallways and school pickup lines. At kitchen sinks and conference tables. He has placed you on a lampstand on purpose.
And light has a sound.
It sounds like reconciliation at the dinner table. It sounds like whispered prayers over a restless teenager. It sounds like grocery bags set gently on a neighbor’s porch. It sounds like truth spoken kindly when fear wants to shout. In John 1:5 we are reminded, “The light shines in darkness; and the darkness has not overcome it.” Darkness may be loud—but it is not stronger.
Your ordinary Tuesday may be a lampstand. Your warm welcome, honest work, quiet obedience, and humble service may be the glow that helps someone find their way to Jesus. Sometimes shining is visible action. Sometimes it is audible courage. A timely testimony. A gentle correction. A bold declaration of faith.
The world not only needs to see light - but it also needs to hear it.
Call to action: This week, intentionally let the sound of light be heard through you. Speak one Scripture aloud each day. Offer one intentional word of encouragement. Share one truth about who Jesus is.
Reflection question: When darkness presses in, what sound comes from my life—and does it echo fear, or the steady light of Christ?
