THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE…
“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”
It’s a simple children’s song—but it carries a powerful, biblical truth. The words echo Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Notice something beautiful: Jesus does not say, “Create your own light.” He says, “Let it shine.” The light already exists. As women who belong to Christ, His Spirit lives within us. The same God who said, “Let there be light,” has placed His light in your heart.
We often call it “little.” This little light. My small act of kindness. My quiet faith. My unseen obedience. But in a dark room, even the smallest flame changes everything. A gentle word to a discouraged friend. Integrity in your workplace. Patience with your children. Faithfulness in prayer when no one sees. These are not small to God.
Sometimes we’re tempted to hide our light—under fear, insecurity, comparison, or busyness. We think someone else shines brighter, speaks better, and leads stronger. But God never asked you to shine like someone else. He asked you to let your light shine.
The world does not need a stage performance. It needs steady lamps—women rooted in Christ, reflecting His love in ordinary places.
So, sing it not as a nursery rhyme, but as a declaration: I’m gonna let it shine—in my home. In my friendships. In my struggles. In my calling.
Call to action: This week, choose one intentional way to shine—write the encouraging text, pray out loud with your family, speak about your faith when the opportunity arises, or serve someone quietly without recognition.
Reflection question: What fear or distraction has been dimming your light—and what step can you take today to let it shine freely?
