Refreshed for the Road Ahead

“But now that there is no more place for me to work in these regions… I am planning to go to Spain. When I do, I will stop off in Rome. And after I have enjoyed your fellowship for a little while, you can provide for my journey… I urge you… to join in my struggle by praying to God for me.” Romans 15:23–24, 30 (NLT)

As we step into a new year of ministry, I’ve found myself drawn to this passage in Romans. Paul had labored faithfully in one season and was preparing to step into another. But before he advanced, he paused to seek fellowship, refreshing, and prayer from the people who understood the weight of spiritual leadership.

Reading these words, I feel both the conviction and comfort of Paul's heart. Not just as a leader—but as someone who knows what it means to carry responsibility, vision, and fatigue all at once. For us as credential holders to accomplish what the Lord has invited us to accomplish in Kansas will require us to be privately healthy and publicly fruitful, and the only way for us to maintain a consistent pattern of health is to be consistently renewed in the presence of God. Remember, we are stewards of God's call.

We are part of a Spirit-empowered movement. But we are also in a very real spiritual battle. And as we launch into 2026, I believe the Holy Spirit is calling each of us to pause, reflect, and be refreshed for the road ahead.

  • Paul says, “After I have enjoyed your fellowship for a little while…” That’s not filler—that’s fuel. It’s the language of someone who’s been poured out and needs to be filled again.

As credential holders, we give, serve, preach, shepherd, and lead—but let me say clearly: You cannot pour out what you haven’t received.

The rhythm of the Spirit includes rest, renewal, and soul refreshment. Ministry is not a contest of endurance—it’s a call to abide.

Here’s what God says about refreshing:

    · Jeremiah 31:25 – “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”

    · Acts 3:19 – “…that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

    · Isaiah 40:31 – “Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength…”

    · Psalm 23:3 – “He restores my soul.”

    · Proverbs 11:25 – “One who waters will himself be watered.”

Let me encourage you: Take your vacation days. Rest without guilt. Get away with Jesus—often. Be in the Word for you, not just for others. Let the Spirit refresh your spirit—because you matter to God, not just your ministry.

  • Paul wrote: “You can provide for my journey.” In other words: “I can’t do this alone.”

As we lead into the future—planting churches, raising up the next generation, cultivating healthy leaders, and chasing revival in Kansas—we need more than individual gifting. We need partnership, unity, and spiritual alignment.

Years ago, Amber said something I’ll never forget: “Solo is a no-go. Do not do ministry alone.”

She was right. Isolated leadership is not biblical leadership. Independent ministry is dangerous. We weren’t built for ministry in silos—we were created to walk together in the Spirit.

This Network doesn’t belong to one name or voice. It belongs to the whole body, working in sync to see Jesus known in every community across Kansas.

Let’s walk together. Let’s cover one another. Let’s speak life and truth into each other. Let’s commit to unity over isolation and honor over suspicion.

This is HIS mission. Let’s lead it together.

  • Paul’s final plea is both bold and honest:

“Join in my struggle by praying to God for me.”

He wasn’t ashamed to ask for prayer. He understood that leadership invites attack, fatigue, and resistance. The same is true for you.

    We’re facing real battles:

    · Marriages barely holding together

    · Sons and daughters walking away from truth

    · Churches splitting over avoidable conflict

    · Pastors carrying silent discouragement

    · Leaders who feel spiritually dry but don’t know where to turn

Let me be direct: This year, I’ve found myself saying repeatedly, “I hate the devil.” The warfare is real. But so is the power of prayer.

Let’s build a culture where prayer covers leadership—not just platform moments, but private battles. If Paul needed prayer, how much more do we?

    · Pray for one another.

    · Pray for protection and wisdom.

    · Pray for marriages, minds, and spiritual health.

    · Pray for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit in our churches.

We cannot afford to be a prayerless Network. Our communities cannot afford a prayerless church. Our churches cannot afford a prayerless leader. Your family cannot afford a prayerless parent.

Paul wrote:

“I am sure that when I come, Christ will richly bless our time together.” (Romans 15:29)

That’s my heart for you—that as we begin this year:

· Christ would richly bless your ministry

· He would refresh your soul

· He would restore your joy

· He would revive your purpose

· And that we would walk together—in unity and in power

“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” – Jeremiah 31:25

Together, let’s make 2026 a year of revival, renewal, and real unity. Refreshed for the road ahead—until Jesus is known in every community of Kansas.

With you in the fight,

NLS

  • 1. Where do I need refreshing right now?

    2. Who do I need to reach out to for encouragement or connection?

    3. How can I build rest, prayer, and partnership into my rhythms this year?

YthCon Recap

A Weekend that Clarified the Mission

Yth Con was a powerful reminder of why we invest in the next generation. Across the weekend, 1,139 students from 136 churches gathered with one shared focus: to encounter Jesus and be sent back to their schools, families, and communities on mission. From the first service to the final moment of response, the emphasis stayed clear and uncompromised—the gospel, the call to discipleship, and a responsibility to live on purpose.

This impact was made possible through the faithful service of more than 100 volunteers who gave their time, leadership, and prayers to create an environment where students could engage deeply with what God was doing. Their behind-the-scenes faithfulness and visible leadership helped shape a weekend marked by excellence, safety, and spiritual sensitivity.

  • …of the weekend was the CALLED Lunch, where 87 students took intentional steps to explore God’s calling on their lives. These students leaned in to ask serious questions about ministry, missions, and leadership in the local church. These moments may not always be immediately visible, but they represent long-term fruit for churches across Kansas.

The clearest expression of student ownership came through a bold commitment to prayer and evangelism. Our teenagers committed to pray for 2,200 friends by name—friends who do not yet know Jesus—and to continue praying until they see salvation. This was not emotional hype; it was a sober, faith-filled commitment to live the Great Commission personally.

In addition, students and leaders embraced a faith goal to raise $350,000 for Speed the Light in 2026. This commitment reflects a growing understanding that generosity fuels mission and that students can play a meaningful role in reaching the world.

Yth Con affirmed that when students are challenged, trusted, and equipped, they respond. Thank you to every pastor and church who partnered together to invest in this generation. The mission is clear, and the momentum is moving forward.

WIMB

I am so excited for what God will do in our hearts as we gather under the theme Arise & Shine. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 5:14–15, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.” These words are more than a calling; they are our identity. You are light because His light lives within you.

My prayer is that this time together lifts the weight from your shoulders and reminds you that your light, your voice, your calling, and your presence matter deeply in the Kingdom.

I’m especially looking forward to Friday evening which is the Shine Gala, a beautiful evening to celebrate what God is doing through women in ministry, honor faithfulness, and rejoice together in His work among us.

I can’t wait to worship, learn, and seek Jesus with you. Let’s step into this year ready to Arise & Shine, confident that the light He has placed within us is meant to be seen.

With love,

Grace

Presbyter Book Review

The Hole In Our Gospel

by Richard Stearns, President Emeritus, World Vision

What does it mean to truly be a follower of Jesus and have a heart for those who are lost and hurting?

In “The Hole in Our Gospel,” Richard Stearns shares his story as a “self-made” man who was raised in a poor, dysfunctional family. He did not grow up in a home that involved the church or hearing the Gospel. As a teenager, he states, “The way I saw it, the Church was full of hypocrites and weak-minded people who needed a crutch—which I certainly did not. Besides my new religion of self-reliance seemed to be working.” He shares that his desire was to leave all of that behind and make himself powerful and successful. Through hard work and dedication, he made it out and attended an Ivy League school, graduating with honors.

But God had a very strategic plan for Richard, and he met his future wife in college. She was a strong Christian and through her influence and after months of diligent study he gave his life to Christ. He was a very successful businessman and became the CEO of a major company … but then through some amazing circumstances God called him to the presidency of World Vision. What he witnessed and how he had to change the way he looked at the Gospel of Jesus Christ is what this book is all about.

We are challenged with the fact that our westernized Gospel has become something that is shared through word only and not through deed. Mr. Stearns looks deeply into church culture and asks us to evaluate it through the eyes of Scripture and the way Jesus lived in His culture. He challenges us with this thought, “When we committed ourselves to following Christ, we also committed to living our lives in such a way that a watching world would catch a glimpse of God’s character—His love, justice, and mercy—through our words, actions, and behavior. We are Christ’s ambassadors. God chose us to be His representatives. He called us to go out, to proclaim Good News—to be the Good News—and to change the world. Living out our faith privately was never meant to be an option.”

This book opens our eyes to see the world in a new light. To awaken our heart of evangelism through not just what we say, but in what we do. To fill the hole in our gospel with actions that match our words and to truly impact our world with the life changing message of Jesus Christ.

AGK Rescue day

AGK is hosting our third AGK Rescue Day, and I’m inviting you to join me in a unified, statewide effort to bring freedom in the name of Jesus.

Having traveled to Spain last year to see firsthand the life-changing work Project Rescue is doing, my commitment to this ministry has only deepened as I witnessed women and children being rescued and restored.

From the depth of my heart, I ask you to embrace this opportunity. Together, let’s make a difference for future generations and let Kansas be known as a network that chose to act.

Will you stand with us?

AIM TRIP

Deep in the Amazon Basin lies Iquitos, a city only accessible by air or river and surrounded by jungle villages that remain largely unreached with the gospel. While the beauty of the region is undeniable, the spiritual and practical needs are real. Many communities face limited access to resources, consistent pastoral leadership, and opportunities for discipleship. This is where the Church—and the next generation—can make a meaningful difference.

  • …are doing exceptional work in this region. Through faithful presence, relational ministry, and partnership with local leaders, they are seeing lives changed and churches strengthened. Yet the work is far from finished. The harvest is ready, and the need for willing servants continues.

From July 18–26, students have the opportunity to be part of this mission through the KYM Iquitos AIM Trip. This youth missions experience is designed for students who have completed 9th grade and are ready to step outside their comfort zone to serve others. The team will travel by river to two jungle villages surrounding Iquitos, engaging in relational outreach, ministry activities, and hands-on support for local leaders as we share the love of Christ.

This trip is not tourism—it is mission. Students will learn what it means to listen well, serve humbly, and depend on the Holy Spirit in cross-cultural ministry. Alongside ministry days, the team will also spend one day experiencing the culture and landmarks of Iquitos, helping students better understand the people they are serving.

The total cost of the trip is $2,600 and includes all meals, insurance, and travel expenses. A structured payment schedule is provided to help families plan, and a mandatory Zoom meeting will be held for students and parents prior to departure to ensure clarity and preparation.

This is an invitation for students to grow in faith, compassion, and calling—while partnering with missionaries who are faithfully advancing the gospel in one of the world’s most challenging regions. Peru is ready. The question is simple: who will go?
