Speed the Light is a national youth ministry tool challenging students to give and raise money so that missionaries around the world will have the vehicles and equipment necessary to take the Light of Jesus around the world.

  • STL New Year's Eve Lock In

About a month ago I told the youth that we where going to have a New Years Eve Lock-In. They decided to have a competition to see who would get to sleep on the couches in the youth room. So I suggested guys vs. girls whoever raises the most for Speed The Light. We just finished this week.  The girls won but total we raised a little over $300. Can't wait to see what else will happen this next year.

  • STL Chili Cook-Off

On Oct. 30, The Assembly at Goddard youth group sponsored a Speed the Light Chili Cook Off. The goal of this event was to raise money for Speed the Light and to create an atmosphere of fellowship with our church. The event was more than successful.

To enter it was $20/per chili, or $30/per 2 chili's from the same household. We charged $5/person for all-you-can-eat chili. The church provided the necessities like cups, plates, and silverware, but also provided the toppings for the chili. We had three women in the congregation donate food to help with the event.

Each chili had a name and spice level card next to it. The chilis remained anonymous as we brought in three surprise judges to judge the contest: District Youth Directors Darin and Marleen Stroud, and Youth Alive Missionary, Travis Dumond.

We raised $638.00 for STL through chili entries, tip jars, and price per person to eat. But not only did we raise money for STL, but we had a great time doing it. It was an event we hope to do for many more years to come.

  • STL Trashbags

We have trash bags (similar to what schools in the area sell) that we sell for Speed The Light. We had broken even on them and so I challenged our kids with a competition to see who could sell the most so we could be able to give the profit to STL this year.   I had one student, Lyndi Hoit, who just took this thing and ran with it. She went door to door though the neighborhoods and sold $580 worth of thrash bags by herself!  Proud of her and just wanted to share with you her hard work and accomplishment.

It's not about the money.  It's about the souls that can't be reached if money isn't given to help our missionaries.  We must store up for ourselves treasures in heaven.  Everything around us screams that the economy is terrible and that the world is in turmoil.  But God is in control.  Believe the report of Joshua and Caleb that we can do it together!
